There are many different types of family visa options available for partners, children, parents and other family members of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens.
Partner Visa Categories
Partner Visa Temporary (onshore) – Subclass 820
This visa is for applicants who are in Australia at the time of applying for a visa. This is a temporary visa for a person who is married to, or in a de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa is usually valid for two years.
Partner Visa Permanent (onshore) – Subclass 801
This visa is for applicants who are in Australia at the time of applying for a visa. This is a permanent visa for a person who is married to, or in a de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Eligible New Zealand citizen.
Prospective Marriage Visa-Subclass 300
This visa is for applicants who are currently outside Australia and who are engaged, but not yet married, to an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa is valid for 9 months.
Partner Visa Temporary (offshore) – Subclass 309
This visa is for applicants who are outside Australia when they apply for the visa. This is a temporary visa for a person who is married to, or in a de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa is usually valid for two years.
Partner Visa Permanent (offshore) – Subclass 100
This visa is for applicants who are outside Australia when they apply for the visa. This is a permanent visa for a person who is married to, or in a de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Eligible New Zealand citizen.
Child Visa Categories
Child Visa-Subclasses 101 and 802
This visa is for children of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Orphan Relative Visa-Subclasses 117 and 837
This visa is for orphaned relatives of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Adoption Visa-Subclass 102
This visa is for children from overseas who have been or about to be adopted by an Australian citizen, the holder of an Australian permanent visa, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Dependent Child Visa-Subclass 445
This visa is for children whose parent holds a temporary partner visa and is in the process of obtaining a permanent partner visa.

Parent (Permanent) Visa-Subclass 103
This visa is for parents of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa-Subclass 173
This is a temporary visa valid for 2 years. This visa is for parents of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Contributory Parent (Permanet) Visa-Subclass 143
This visa is for holders of a temporary Contributory Parent visa, who want to apply for a permanent Contributory Parent visa.
Aged Parent (permanent) Visa-Subclass 804
This visa is for aged parents of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa-Subclass 884
This is a temporary visa valid for 2 years. This visa is for parents of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
Contributory Aged Parent (Permanent) Visa-Subclass 864
This visa is for holders of a temporary Contributory Aged Parent visa, who want to apply for a permanent Contributory Aged Parent visa.
Other Relatives Visa Categories
Aged Dependent Relative Visa-Subclasses 114 and 838
This visa is for single, widowed, divorced or formally separated relatives who are dependent on an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen relative.
Carer Visa-Subclasses 116 and 836
This visa is for relative of an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen who has a medical condition, or whose family member has a medical condition, requiring care.
